enture Development Corp. has launched a study on the enterprise software stack for mobile applications. The firm has a brief note on some of the issues and requirements for scaling business critical mobile applications, and an outline of the proposed research, here (PDF).
The basic message seems to be: forget about simple. Mobile applications, to meet the enterprise needs for security, performance, and reliability, need to be approached from the viewpoint of an overall architecture, not as ad hoc, one-time tactical projects.
