Marvell, a network equipment components manufacture used widely among vendors, recently released a reference design that is targeted at WLAN switch manufactures. The referenced design incorporates 24 ports of 10/100M bit/sec switch ports, with two Gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as chips silicon maker Cavium which can process security traffic, encryption and authentication.

The box would be used by equipment makers as a base design, onto which additional features and software would be added. Now that Marvell is offering this design, users might see more WLAN switch gear come to market faster, with more advanced features.
