Following up on last week's article looking at the state of IP-based videoconferencing, Mike Pihlman wrote in with some statistics on how IP video is being used on the Energy Sciences Network (ESNet), which is run by Lawrence Berkeley Labs (see story here). Currently, his network is handling 4,000 port hours per month of traffic, 95% of which is IP:
Our ISDN traffic has gone down so dramatically that we are turning off the bridge that supports ISDN in October 2004. We will support the few remaining ISDN customers via a RAD gateway into the H.323 bridge. Probably only with a single PRI.
