On February 1 consumers will be able to buy the Samsung SCH-a890, the first handset that will be able to access Verizon Wireless' VCAST multimedia 3G wireless service, the companies said today.
The a890 will be able access VCAST applications, including Video On Demand; it also has a 1.3 megapixel digital camera (with rotating lens, zoom, color tone, self timer and a flash) and a 260,000-color main display for viewing photos or videos from the service. Other features include 64-tone polyphonic ringers, a bilingual user interface, picture caller ID and a personal organizer.
The VCAST service gives users unlimited access to more than 300 daily updated video clips from content providers, and will cost $15 per month above and beyond a regular Verizon Wireless calling plan, the companies said. The VCAST customers will also receive unlimited browsing of Verizon Wireless' Mobile Web 2.0 news and information service. Even more premium content is available, including 3-D games, music videos and other premium clips.
The a890 phone will cost $249.99 (after a $70 rebate and a two-year customer agreement), Verizon Wireless said.
