One of the devices I'm excited about trying out is the Canary Wireless Digital HotSpotter, a Wi-Fi detection and analysis device. The $50 device takes the Wi-Fi finder concept and goes one step further. While most of the small keychain-sized devices just scan the area for a signal and give you a green light, the Digital HotSpotter actually tells you the SSID of the network it found, whether the network is secured or open, and the channel that the network is on.
This way, you don't have to boot up your laptop to find out whether you can get onto the network easily, this device gives you the info in advance. I'm looking forward to using this in Vegas, not just to see if there's a signal around, but also to count how many open networks there are.
