Varatouch this week launched "the world's smallest joystick" (I know there's a joke in there somewhere, but we'll take the high road) for handheld devices such as cell phones, PDAs, gaming devices and GPS receivers. The Nanopoint measures 3.3 mm high and has a diameter of 12.7 mm.
The company is marketing the joystick to device makers who want to offer more input than the typical four-direction navigation buttons currently on the market. Varatouch says the joystick includes "full analog variable control," which allows for almost infinite positioning capability and better control on a handheld's smaller display.
More information is available at the Varatouch Web site.
Back to Cool ToolsWhat I like about this company's products is that they have embraced the old-world "analog" approach. For an input device, I want proportionality and 360 degree movement.
This movement to analog HID for hand-helds CE is parallel to the Apple announcement in the early 80's of the inclusion of the "new-fangled" mouse.
