Network World Fusion, 11/10/04

Part of the problem in playing music off your computer is that in order to switch songs (or skip one), you have to be near the computer. When you start streaming the music to another room, changing the song or playlist involves running back to the original room.

Keyspan-URM17a.jpgKeyspan aims to solve that with a USB infrared remote control that lets users control their media applications on a PC or Macintosh. When connected to the USB port on Apple's AirPort Express, users can control the music streaming from the computer in the other room.

The remote can be used in two ways. When connected to the USB port of the AirPort Epress, the remote can control music being streamed from iTunes on a remote PC or Mac. If the remote base station is connected directly to a PC or Mac, the Express Remote will let you control audio and video media players on the PC in the same way you use a TV or VCR Remote.

The remote will retail for $59, and ships later this month. It will be available through the Apple Store, Apple's retail stores and other resellers.
