Network World Fusion, 08/04/04

T-Mobile and Danger Inc. will launch its new Sidekick II device at a star-studded party tonight. The general public will be able to buy the Sidekick II later this fall, the company said.

Sidekick-2-low.jpgThe new device is about 25 percent smaller than the previous Sidekick, and new features include an integrated digital camera with a flash, enhanced phone sound quality (including a speaker phone), and added battery life to bring it up to 4.5 hours of talk time.

The Sidekick II includes a color screen that swivels up to show a QWERTY keyboard for e-mail and instant messaging; users get their own e-mail account and can set up to three external e-mail accounts. For instant messaging, Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger are supported. The device also has an address book with up to 2,000 contacts.

Personalization features include specialized ring tones, voice ringers (download messages from musicians and celebrities), new games, and color bumpers (interchangeable outer bumpers for the device).

Pricing and availability was not yet announced. For more details, go to the T-Mobile Web site.

Sidekick will break easy. Average per user, 5 times to replace after break.

With the new sidekick coming out all I hope for is it to be better put together. The old sidekick was a thing of beauty but it has its flaws suck as breaking within weeks of getting replaced. If it didn't offer so much features I would of got a whole differnt phone. So I am crossing my fingers that the sidekick 2 will be better put together with less room for malfunctions.
