If you like carrying around lots of USB-enabled peripherals when you travel, it's likely you will need a USB hub to connect all the devices to your notebook. More likely, you'd appreciate having a less bulky USB hub to connect all of your devices.
Targus recently launched two new mobile hubs to its lineup, the Hi-Speed Slim USB 2.0 4-Port Pocket Hub and the Ultra Mini USB 2.0 4-Port Hub. Each hub weighs less than 1.7 oz., and are about the size of a credit card, the company said. They support Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP and Mac OS X systems (for Macs, the hubs only work at 1.1 speeds).
The Slim model ($30) includes an optional power adapter, as well as overcurrent protection that can shut down an overloaded port if a connected peripheral needs more power than the hub can supply, while continuing to give power to the other three ports, Targus said. The business card-sized Ultra Mini model ($25) includes a Y-cable that draws power without the additional weight of an AC adapter. It also offers the overcurrent protection, Targus said.
