Network World Fusion, 04/29/04

Verizon Wireless this week said that the Yahoo! Messenger instant messaging application is now available through Verizon's Mobile IM service. Verizon Wireless customers can now use their phone to connect to the top three IM applications (AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger).

Verizon-MobileIM.gifThe Mobile IM is initially available on the LG VX6000 camera phone, and customers need an existing Yahoo! Messenger account to use the Mobile IM service. Customers who already have the Mobile IM application need to remove it and download the new version with the Yahoo! Messenger features in order to use the Yahoo! Service.

Incoming and outgoing instant messages are treated like a text message, Verizon Wireless said. The company charges $0.02 for each message received, and $0.10 for each message sent. Bundled packages ($2.99 per month for 100 messages, $4.99 per month for 250 messages and $9.99 per month for 1,000 messages) are also available.

More information on the Mobile IM application is available here.
