Starting Sunday you'll be able to order the new HP Compaq Presario SR1000 desktop PC for about $400 (with a $50 rebate) for the Intel Celeron 2.6GHz SR1010V system. The new series has a black and silver industrial design with an improved front input/output interface, letting users access disks and peripherals easier, the company said.
The SR1000 (click to view) desktop includes an optional 9-in-1 memory card reader (supports SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, Compact Flash I and II, IBM Microdrive, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO) that lets users transfer data from digital cameras, MP3 players and other devices directly onto the computer. Optical drive options include a 48x-speed CD-RW, 48x-speed CD-ROM, DVD+RW/CD-RW combination drive and an optional floppy disk drive (seriously, does anyone use floppy disks anymore?).
Users get a choice of processors on this machine, including the Intel Celeron (2.6 or 2.8 GHz), the AMD Athlon XP 2600+, AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (shelf models only), Intel Pentium 4, and Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading Technology. Other features include 128M bytes of DDR memory (expandable up to 1G bytes), a 40G-byte hard drive (expandable up to 250G-bytes), a choice of graphics cards (Intel Extreme UMA, UMA graphics [for the AMD platforms], NVIDIA GeForce4 MX UMA, NVIDA GeForce FX 5200XT or the GeForce FX 5500), and FireWire (on some models). All the models include integrated Ethernet, a V.92 modem, six USB 2.0 ports and a Compaq keyboard and mouse.
Pre-configured models will be available on March 28, HP said. Go to the HP Shopping Web site for other details.
Back to Cool ToolsI went to the HP Shopping Web site, but I find no mention whatsoever about this new Presario SR1000. Perhaps this announcement was a tad premature?
Posted by: Hackhound on March 30, 2004 09:01 AMIt's possible that the HP shopping site hasn't caught up yet with their PR folks who send out the press releases to me.
