For those people who love having all of their multimedia content on one PC, HP has upgraded its Media Center PC line.

The company today launched the HP Media Center m400 series Photosmart PC, with processor speeds up to 3.4GHz. The m400 series can burn CDs, edit personal videos, record and play back live TV, listen to FM radio, and connect to devices such as digital cameras or camcorders.

Three retail models will be available -- the m490n, m480n and m470n. Customizable models will be available from retail kiosks and from the HP Web site. All models include Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, a personal video recorder TV tuner card, FM tuner with antenna, free downloadable program guide, a 7-in-1 memory card reader, six USB 2.0 ports, two FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port and a V.92 modem.

HP also lowered the price of the new models; the devices now cost about $100 to $150 less than previous models. Prices for the pre-configured m400 start at $1,249.99 (after $50 rebate); customizable systems start at $879.99 (after $50 rebate). The retail versions will be available on Feb. 8 (Sunday), and configure-to-order models can be purchased today, HP says.

I am in the process of purchasing the m480n. I would like some feedback from anyone who has one.

I found that this model line (m470n, etc)has a problem with intermittent bursty type static on the TV Tuner whenever it is decoding from a s-video input. Not good if you want to back up your data.
