Samsung recently launched a new 17-inch LCD computer monitor, the SyncMaster 172x. The $649 monitor offers features such as hands-free configuration, and enhanced brightness features depending on the application you're using. The monitor is available now, Samsung said.
The SyncMaster 172x boasts a 12 msec response time, which Samsung says is twice as fast as traditional LCD monitors, and ideal for PC gamers looking for fast video response times. The 8.3-pound monitor also has a thin and sleek design, with features such as a 270cd/m2 brightness rate, a 500:1 contrast ratio and a maximum resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels.
The monitor comes with its MagicTune software, which offers a "hands-free" way to configure the settings. Instead of pushing buttons on the monitor to adjust, the software lets you do it with the mouse (so, it's somewhat hands-free). The MagicBright technology offers users three different "brightness modes" that are aimed at different application usages. For example, the PC-Text mode is used for regular text-based computing (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.), the Internet Mode offers increased brightness for viewing streaming video off the Internet, and the third mode is designed for entertainment applications (PC gaming, or watching TV or multimedia content editing). A digital video interface (DVI) is also available, which offers a sharper and cleaner image than standard analog inputs.
