Logitech today launched its QuickCam Orbit Webcam, which includes a mechanical pan and tilt feature. The device costs $129.95 and is available now, the company said.
The feature lets the Webcam physically turn 128 degrees horizontally, and 54 degrees vertically. When used with Logitech’s face-tracking software, the camera stays focused on the user’s face, freeing up the person from having to manually adjust the camera during a video instant messaging session. Auto-zoom features let the camera zoom in up to three times the normal viewing size, Logitech added.
The QuickCam orbit can also capture still photos at 1.3 megapixel resolution, and can create 640 by 480 pixel videos through its CCD sensor. The device includes a 9-inch stand, which lets users elevate the camera to eye-level, and has a built-in microphone. The camera works with Macintosh OS X, Windows 2000, ME or XP machines. It also integrates with Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Messenger video IM applications (Yahoo! Messenger for Mac for Macintosh users).

i was just wandering if you can tell me how good the logitech webcam is, so is it clear or fussy.
Thanx
The logitech quickcam is a huge disappointment. It is the old logitech Pro 4000, just in a new case. The camera is usb2 computable, but in reality only sends data at a usb level. The only reason to perches this camera would be the pan and tilt feature, but the software fails to allow remote uses to control pan or tilt.
To sum up the product. Pore image quality, similar two many ten to 40 dollar camera. No auto focus, only digital zoom, vertical tilt is too limited, frame rate under 30, image size small. They also included a mirror, but it dose not reflect what the camera is aimed at. BTW I wouldn't expect this or other web cams to have inferred or night vision. But I know many consumers ask these two questions, the answer is no the orbit dose not have night vision or inferred.
I would like to credit logitech for making this camera. I hope other companies include pan and tilt. Sense the problem with pan and tilt is a software related, I still have hope that logitech may recognize the problem, and release software that will meet with consumers demand.
But for now I would recommend looking into other pan and tilt solutions. Such as the TrackerPod which is designed to work with any web cam, and can be controlled by remote users. Not only dose it work over the web, but it has an excellent radius for pan and tilt. For web camera. Any cam with a trackpod, cost about the same as the orb, and will offer a wider range of viewing, and an image that matches the orb.
If your looking for a web camera with quality imaging. I would recommend the iSite by apple. With has auto focus, 30+ fps, and the iSite communicates over firewire allowing a larger image. The only way to improve, right now, over the isite would be a real camcorder. Or an quality Digital camera. CompUSA, BestBuy or Circtet City all of witch sell their returned camcorders at at bargain prices. Ushallya bout 80 dollar more then the isite.
we have needed web cam software
