HP today announced a redesigned Compaq Tablet PC (the TC1100), which includes wireless LAN connectivity for 802.11a, b and g networks, as well as integrated Bluetooth for personal area network connections. The tablet starts at $1,849, and will be available in mid-November, the company said.
The TC1100 works both as a tablet, and as a portable notebook. When in the tablet form, users can write on the screen from the device’s “electronic pen.” A user can also attach a lightweight, removable keyboard when they prefer to type instead, HP said. When connected to a larger docking station (includes a full-size keyboard and monitor), the TC1100 becomes more like a desktop PC.
The device includes the low-voltage Pentium M processor, and measures 0.8-inches thin and weighs just over three pounds, the company said. Other features include a 10.4-inch TFT display, NVIDIA GeForce4 Go 420 high-resolution graphics card, infrared port, up to a 60G-byte hard drive, and Secure Digital and USB 2.0 ports.
