Network World Fusion, 08/04/03

D-Link last Friday announced a new 802.11g wireless Ethernet Adapter that can give high-speed wireless LAN connectivity to any device with an Ethernet port, including game consoles, music devices and even regular laptops. The device will be available in mid-August for about $135, the company said.

D-LinkDWL_G810.jpgThe D-Link DWL-G810 Xtreme G Wireless Bridge connects to an existing 802.11g network, the company said. In addition to working in infrastructure mode (with an access point), two devices can work in ad hoc mode, creating an instant wireless network between the two devices. The DWL-G810 can transfer data files up to 54M bit/sec. and does not include any drivers. It is configured via Web interface, and also includes support for 64- and 128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption.
