Network World Fusion, 06/06/03

The new color version of the T-Mobile Sidekick e-mail device is now available, T-Mobile said today. The Sidekick is based on Danger Inc.’s hiptop device, which includes wireless e-mail and Web surfing capabilities. The color version of the sidekick costs $299.99 and will be sold at CompUSA or by calling 800-TMOBILE.

T-Mobile-Sidekick-color.jpgThe device has a 65,000-color screen, which swivels up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. In addition to e-mail (up to three POP3 accounts) and Web surfing, the device includes AOL Instant Messenger, a cell phone and a camera.

T-Mobile also announced new rate plans – new and existing Sidekick customers can sign up for any T-Mobile voice plan and add on unlimited e-mail, Web browsing, instant messaging and text messaging for $20 per month. A stand-alone plan (no voice) is available for $29.99 per month, with voice calls billed at $0.20 per minute (domestic long distance and roaming included). The company said the current $39.99 and $59.99 plans will no longer be available, but that current customers on those plans can stay on them if they like, or move to the new rates.
