For too long the computer mouse has been used to navigate. It's time to add some more features to it.
SmarTec Ltd. has one idea -- use the mouse as an FM radio. It said recently it is shipping the MouseCaster, a computer mouse that also turns your PC into an FM radio without needing an Internet connection. The MouseCaster plugs into the PS/2 mouse port, and includes a built-in FM radio. Software bundled with the mouse includes an on-screen control panel that lets users listen to FM radio broadcasts off-line, the company said. The software includes up to 28 station pre-sets as well as auto-scanning ability. The company said the MouseCaster won't interfere with Internet connections.
The device and software can also record songs and programs into MP3 and WAV formats, SmarTec added. The device works on PCs with Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, ME or XP. It costs $34.95, and can be purchased through the SmarTec Web site.
