Adobe Systems Inc. recently announced that version 7.0 of its FrameMaker software is now available. The software is an XML authoring and publishing tool that now includes SGML (previously available separately). The software also now includes a word processing interface in a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) format that allows non-XML coders to contribute to the Web publishing effort of a company.
The software allows users to author, edit, import and publish valid XML content, the company says. In addition, FrameMaker includes templates to publish single-source documents to multiple channels, including print, PDF, Web, eBooks and PDAs, Adobe says. The software also now supports World Wide Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) and Adobe's Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP), which Adobe says will give its applications a common framework that standardizes metadata across publishing workflows.
The software is available in the U.S., Europe and Canada through resellers and at Adobe's Web site. The desktop version costs $799 for the full product, with upgrade offers of $209 for Mac and Windows users through Aug. 22, 2002 ($349 for the upgrade after). The Server version of the software costs $7,999.
