Fixed wireless fills a niche
When you think broadband, the first things that come to mind are probably DSL and cable modem. But fixed wireless is becoming an option for broadband Internet connectivity.

Standard procedure
The 802.11 standard was primarily intended for wireless LANs, but vendors have designed antennas and added bridging functions to adapt the use of 802.11 products for point-to-multipoint applications for end users in fixed locations.

Review: Residential Gateways
At remote offices and home offices, workers are plugging into broadband Internet connections. The problem is that these "always on" connections pose a security risk. The solution is a gateway/firewall, and we tested seven of these products.
