Don't expect to see public-key infrastructure interoperability tests at Interop next week.
While organizers of the show's test network had hoped to demonstrate interoperability among different vendors' PKI capabilities, they could not pull it together in time.

Exchanging encryption keys among different vendors' equipment is necessary to setting up IP Security (IPSec) virtual private networks (VPN) that can be shared by trusted business partners.
Without such interoperability, two companies that wish to share an IPSec Internet based VPN would have to buy equipment from a common vendor, an obstacle many corporations would find too burdensome.
The problem would get worse if a company wanted to set up such VPNs with several other companies.
Interop's test network will demonstrate interoperability among vendors for establishing IPSec tunnels and for passing data over those tunnels.
Companies participating in the test are: Checkpoint, Cisco, Compatible, Datafellows, Intel, InterDyn, Linux Free S/Wan, Microsoft, Netscreen, Nortel, Radguard, RedCreek, VPNet and Xedia.
