The other day my e-mail inbox offered what appears to be a good source of information about companies developing peer-to-peer tools. Mike Ellsworth of Stratvantage Consulting in St. Louis Park, Minn., maintains a P2P for Business directory at www.stratvantage.com/directories/p2pcos.htm, which lists the products and companies involved in promoting the use of file sharing technologies within enterprises.

Ellsworth has also written a white paper called, The Buzz About Hive Computing: Putting Peer-to-Peer Computing to Work, which discusses hive computing (or distributed computing) and whether it is really a P2P solution. The white paper was written for Geneer, a business-to-business software developer, and can be found at: www.geneer.com/publications/download.asp?filename=hives.

In addition, the latest issue of the Geneer Business Report includes Ellsworth's article on P2P, which looks at some of the ways companies are exploiting this computing methodology. It discusses where P2P is today, where it is headed and how businesses can take advantage of the technology. That article can be found at: www.geneer.com/report/gbrissue03.asp.

Ellsworth is currently at work on another white paper, which he says will provide an overview of the P2P marketplace and should be out within the next six weeks. Anyone with changes or additions to Ellsworth's P2P for Business directory can reach him at: mellsworth@stratvantage.com.
