Taiwan's High Tech Computer (HTC), the world's largest maker of smartphones that run Microsoft Windows Mobile software, on Tuesday launched its Touch Dual handset in South Korea.

HTC teamed up with South Korean mobile phone service provider SK Telecom to market the handset. South Koreans will be the first to have a look at the Touch Dual, and the handset marks HTC's entry into the country's market.

The handset is available in SK Telecom stores for 500,000 Korean won (US$478), though some sales promotions and subsidies may reduce the cost for some people, HTC said in a statement.

The device is available in black or pearl white, and is a slider handset that runs Windows Mobile 6.1. Its touchscreen uses HTC's TouchFlo technology and a 16-key keypad slides out from under the handset for quick typing as well. The device includes mobile versions of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and users can browse the Web using a HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) wireless link.

The handset has two cameras, a 2.0-megapixel camera for photos or video and a second camera for video calls.

HTC plans to establish an office in South Korea as part of its efforts to expand in the country. New entrants into the South Korean market face stiff competition from mobile phone makers Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
