BT sets up global operations center in India

By John Ribeiro , IDG News Service , 03/25/2008

BT Group has opened a global operations center in India. The new center in Gurgaon, near Delhi, will employ up to 300 staff to run systems and processes for BT's various lines of business worldwide.

The center will also support business functions such as procurement, legal, finance and human resources, BT said on Tuesday. The company already has similar centers in Hungary, Brazil and China.

A number of multinational telecommunications service providers have set up subsidiaries in India that offer a variety of services including network operation.

BT also outsources software development and other services to Indian service providers.

In addition to global customers, BT is also targeting India's domestic market with its services. BT Telecom India, a joint venture majority owned by BT, received licenses from the Indian government in February last year to operate international long-distance and national long-distance services.

BT provides its local customers with VPN services using technologies such as IP, MPLS and ATM, while also addressing the networked IT service requirements of its multinational customers, the company said.
