DSL provider Covad Communications Tuesday launched a managed security service for small and midsize businesses.

The service includes two offerings - TeleDefend Firewall and TeleDefend VPN/Firewall.

Covad customers subscribing to either service receive a self-installable kit. Both kits are based on NetScreen's 5XP appliance platform, which includes built-in VPN support.

Once the kit is installed, Covad configures the NetScreen device and begins monitoring the customer's traffic from Covad's security center.

The TeleDefend Firewall service starts at $150 per month. The TeleDefend VPN/Firewall service starts at $175 per month. Neither kit carries any up-front installation charges.
