NOSes / Novell to launch back-up services for remote usersBrainShare will debut iFolder Storage Services.
Next week, Novell will announce software that allows remote users to back up their files automatically to the corporate network. The software will be launched at Novell's annual user conference, BrainShare. Novell's iFolder Storage Services consists of a Windows program that works with any Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000 PC and allows users to update and back up files on their local PC to the corporate network or a company server based on the Internet.
When a user installs iFolder, the program creates a folder on the user's local drive called C:\My Documents\iFolder, which contains a unique user ID. All changes to files are tracked in this folder, and any changes to files are automatically uploaded to the iFolder Server located at the company when the user connects to the network. Users can also choose to manually synchronize their files with the iFolder Server. IFolder Storage Services is currently deployed in an internal beta trial within Novell. Novell: www.novell.com
