The company worked for about three months determining what issues are plaguing the IT industry, and the most pervasive problem Entuity found in its research didn't have all that much to do with technology.

The trend toward proactive products is in response to this staffing crisis, the company says, and more and more consumers are seeking products that can anticipate problems before they occur and thereby prevent any degradation of service to end users.
Dennis Drogseth, director of Enterprise Management Associates, says the network management industry is undergoing fundamental change. "This transformation will be driven by improved intelligence systems in problem resolution, performance monitoring and service modeling. . . . The traditional approach of viewing the network as plumbing will finally give way to the recognition that the network is a delivery system that can shape, monitor and help to ensure the performance of critical business services."
