PALO ALTO - Interested in Windows 2000, but afraid to move over whole hog? Well VMWare might just have an answer.
The company this week announced VMWare 2.0 for Windows NT and Windows 2000. VMWare 2.0 lets users run several operating systems at once without rebooting or repartitioning their disk drives. With the software installed, users can test new operating systems such as Windows 2000, without jeopardizing the operation of applications written for other Intel operating system platforms such as NT, Unix or Linux.

Users can toggle between the applications running on different operating systems, and as a result users can stay with their existing applications and manage the migration to Windows 2000 more smoothly. According to Gartner Group, one in four companies will run into problems getting Windows 2000 to work with existing software.
The beta software is now available for download at no charge from VMWare's Web site, www.vmware.com.
