News brief: Justice Department drops Network Solutions antitrust inquiry

The Department of Justice has closed its antitrust inquiry into Network Solutions' management of the Internet's primary domain name system, Network Solutions said in a statement this week.

No action is being taken by the Justice Department regarding Network Solutions. The company was informed of the probe in June 1997, and was asked to supply information about its management of the domain name system to the Justice Department.

Network Solutions is a registrar of Internet domain address ending in .com, .net, .org and .edu.
