NEC Corp. says it will unveil a new encryption technology on Monday that it claims to be the world's strongest.

Nobuhiko Koike, general manager (computing) of the company's C&C Media Research Laboratories will provide details of the new system, which is a development on an encryption system announced in 1997, a company spokesman said.

That system did more than just protect data through the use of stronger keys: It sought to confuse would-be hackers by generating numerous fake keys. This method meant an attack on the system would require the hacker to either determine which was the correct key or break numerous keys.

NEC Corp., in Tokyo, can be found online at www.nec.co.jp.
