Staples has signed up Web commerce company Digital River to manage its new software download store on the Internet.

Under the terms of the agreement, Digital River will manage the online distribution of downloadable software titles from Staples.com, the U.S.-based office supply retailer's online store, the company says.

The retailer already offers more than 6,000 products at Staples.com. The online software sales are expected to further enhance the range of its office supplies aimed at small businesses, the company says.

In the real world, Staples boasts over 1,000 stores and in addition to the Internet, also sells its office supplies via mail order catalogs.

Along with its U.S. holdings, Staples also has operations in Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and the U.K.

Digital River, in Minneapolis, is at http://www.digitalriver.com/. Staples can be reached at http://www.staples.com/.
