In a bid to offer developers a one-stop shop for Extensible Markup Language (XML) tools and support, Microsoft Corp. Wednesday launched the MSDN XML Developer Center on the Web.

Microsoft is banking on developers being able to quickly leverage XML in Web and enterprise applications as a language-neutral, standards-based data transformation and exchange technology to work across disparate systems, according to the Redmond, Wash.-based company. The support site can be found at msdn.microsoft.com/xml/default.asp.

Edgar Data Service, for example, is using Microsoft's XML-oriented products to deliver Securities and Exchange Commission filings to customers across multiple platforms, according to Microsoft officials. The use of XML allows Edgar Data Service customers to also query and access such structured information across systems.

The new MSDN XML Developer Center offers Microsoft's XML parser, as well as sample code and guides for using Microsoft Visual Studio, Office 2000, and BizTalk framework initiative to exercise XML in new applications.

Moreover, at a series of DevDays on Sept. 15, Microsoft will discuss XML and Windows 2000, including how to translate record sets to XML and how to work with XML documents on both the new Windows client and new Windows 2000 server, both of which are due in the fourth quarter of this year.
