Attempting to help enterprise-class Linux users make better choices in setting up and managing open source environments, The Santa Cruz Operation's Professional Services division Monday unveiled a series of Linux-based support services.
The new services, which company officials say represent the next step in SCO's strategy to support the network computing model, include Linux Audits. Linux Audits will help users better plan and price their individual deployments, configuration management and maintenance, and consulting and technical support, SCO officials say.
"Enterprise customers tell us they want to choose the best technology for the task, but that they want to minimize the risk of introducing new technologies to their current business environments," says David Taylor, vice president of SCO's Professional Services group in Santa Cruz, Calif. "We think Linux Audits goes toward accomplishing that."
Because many open source technologies require a labor-based technology model, SCO officials believe these technologies create a large demand for services and technical support people to assist users in setting up Linux-based mission-critical environments.
"The open source nature of Linux along with a large pool of in-house technical staff skilled in Linux gives us a good position in helping many enterprise-class customers," Taylor says.
