Which is most important - reliability or price?
What protocols will the interface use?
Will you or the business partner handle data conversions (from ASCII to EBCDIC, for example)?
What preferences and requirements does your business partner have for the link?
Can third-party tools, such as messaging middleware, help reduce your companies' efforts in building the link?
What is the minimum acceptable service level for the link? Does your business partner agree?
What security (confidentiality, authenticity and data integrity) is appropriate for the link?
Who will monitor each link?
How will you handle connectivity problems?
How will you handle bandwidth utilization problems?
How will you handle application performance problems?
Do your plans for handling connectivity and other problems give you the uptime you need?
