Why can't IT emulate the medical profession?

Jim Stewart delves into a leading principal in medicine: "Learn One, Do One, Teach One," which, basically, means doctors should strive to learn new procedures, do them and then pass on what they've learned to other doctors. He wonders why IT couldn't replicate that:
"... I wish that this ethic existed in the IT industry. Think of the benefit. First, there would be an acknowledgment that the new employees don't know all they need to, and aren't expected to know. Second, there would be a further expectation that it will take some time, and much effort to become proficient. And third, those who are the most competent would be expected to pass along (their) expertise."
Back to CompendiumThis is the way it used to be in IT. Then came job insecurity. You never get people passing on their expertise when they're frightened for their jobs.
