IBM's decision to build a $360 million cloud computing data center in North Carolina comes fast on the heels of last week's Yahoo-Intel-HP cloud-computing initiative announcement. With so many large players involved, could cloud computing actually become a viable alternative for enterprise IT organizations?
Granted, there are many kinks to be worked out, as this Computerworld article clearly states. But there are some cases where computing in the cloud handily beats local computing (especially for collaborative applications). With all those heavyweights set on making cloud computing work, IT may find in the very near future that it makes sense--both technically and financially--to look to the cloud for key services.
The best place to talk about enterprise networking.
