Plus ça change......

Reminds me of when I first installed SP2 for WinXP - the Symantec AV software, which had been purchased only a year before, quit working. Symantec's "solution": buy new copies of the latest version for all ten systems... which is why I now have 25 licenses for NOD32 - the best move I ever made. I'm done with Symantec's incompetent efforts and their abusive licensing/upgrade policies.

That's why I use AVG....

I have NEVER used Symantec's software, and that's one reason why. You would think such big companies such as Symantec and McAfee would have the best performance and the LEAST compatibility issues. I have found their AV and firewall prorgrams to be of poor quality, and independent tests show the same. Most people that I've repaired computers for have had Symantec or McAfee AV and/or firewall installed. The first thing I do is UNINSTALL them because of the issues I have with their programs. I can't believe they're charging people for such low-qulity software. They're software hogs so much of a computer's resources that it's plain crazy.

I was a Symantec fan...

I was a Symantec fan... but that changed years ago. Now I would not recommend Symantec or Norton products to anyone, home or business clients.

AVG's free products rule. But their customer service and billing is a little hokey for thier pay products.

What about the IE7 Upgrade?

I had the same problem, loss of internet connectivity, when I tried to install IE7 over SP3. I had no issues installing SP3 and I'm running BitDefinder AV software.

With the many options of good security products that are on the market, both paid and free, I would use Symantec in the alphabetical order it falls. Too many of my customers has problems of Symantec over the years.
