Can't the session-border-controllers of these systems help to monitor and eliminate these threats?

The announcement is only minutes away...I wonder if any of the big-name companies will be in the news this week (if they don't patch). A link to this article can be found on my blog:

VoIP Vulnerabilities versus Voice Vulnerabilities

Clearly, it's important to find/fix vulnerabilities in VoIP applications. At the same time, there are a number of important and active risks posed by voice networks (TDM, VoIP or hybrid) that can and should be addressed via Voice Firewall and IPS solutions (beyond SBC functionality). A partial list of real world voice network issues plaguing enterprises, regardless of voice system:

> Control of data network inbound access via modems of the authorized and rogue varieties (may enterprises still use the ineffective method of war dialing to search for modems to find a small % of the modems in use)

> Control of outbound modem/fax transmissions to prevent DLP of sensitive data

> Prevention of costly toll fraud

> Blocking of harassing phone calls not accompanied by caller ID

> Real time detection of social engineering for fraudulent schemes via calls into call centers processing financial transactions.

There are a growing number of leading enterprises from the Department of Defense to small and large commercial enterprises deploying voice firewalls.

It's time to cover the whole perimeter.
