Sucker born every minute

" Obviously, this kind of inflated sense of worth isn't something you can get away with in the enterprise networking realm. Or is it? "

isn't this the definition of how Cisco makes money? The $1000 memory upgrades for the ISR; the $1500 300GB disks in WAAS, $1000 Ethernet interfaces,......

Denon and Monster Cables bigest rip offs

Can't see the need for either of these. Although, at the other end of the spectrum, I wouldnt buy a $4 Ethernet cable either. A lot of poor workmanship issues coming out of Asia on cables.

Digital AV

"In a digital signal, where bits are bits."

Is this not true of digital AV in general? Why pay £100 on a HDMI cable when a £10 one will do the same job. The same can be said for digital coax and fibre optic cabling when used in AV environments.

High $$ = high quality?

Nice. I've got some ocean front property in AZ. Think Denon might want to try and sell that for me?

Interconnects have been the biggest laugh for decades.

It's never been proven that $500 speaker cables do a better job then a $50 set. Do a AB test and you will see. People that pay that exorbant amount of money will swear to you that they hear a difference just to justify the money they've laid out. The ethernet cable is the same. I guess that's why people buy porches instead of corvette's.... :)

Speaker Cables

In the case of speaker cables and "analogue" signals, speaker cable quality does make a difference mostly because of impedance matching. Impedance matching is not an issue in the digital realm. Can you imagine the need for network cables to be the same length to ensure proper impedence as you need to do in a analoge AV solution? I do not think so.

Yes, digital cable quality is not as large of an issue as it is with analoge until one of those cables fail.

Hard to say...

Porsche … Corvette, that’s a no-brainer I’d take either, besides the speeding tickets will be the same for either!

$4 ????? for a 5' cable, that's way to much, I pay $1...

$4 ?????

for a 5' cable, that's way to much,

I pay $1.80 for cat6. Ive never seen any "workmanship problems" except in cables made by "engineers"

Denon charges $499 for patch cable

Copper??!!

For that price I would have expected 24 karat Gold.

Better yet, pure platimun.

If not, then .999 fine silver!!!

But Copper?????

But then again, its Denon, and they are known for (pricey) high end stuff.

This is an old trick from audiophile-land

All tests (and there have been many in the audio community for similalry priced cables) have proved conclusivly that - there is a sucker born every minute.
