I noticed that too on their site
It didn't include txt messaging either. Although I didn't see a plan for the new iPhone so I'm not sure where everybody is getting prices if they aren't posting them anywhere yet.
Apple iPhone 16GB
Nice Posting. Apple iPhone is the best technology for mobile phone. There is one "app" that I would like to see on the iPhone... it's called Flash. Ever heard of it.
For more information Apple iPhone 16GB Please visit our site http://www.mobilephoneshopuk.net/apple_iphone_16gb.html
AT&T Rateplan
The $45 BlackBerry data plan you mention is for business customers on a BES. If you're looking strictly for a personal device accessing your personal email or a work email that is POP3/IMAP4 enabled you only have to get the $30 data plan... read more carefully
Get over yourself
Your article is condescending, arrogant and uninformed. You said... "It seems to me that if there are any remaining objections by IT regarding the iPhone, they would seem to be personal opinions about Apple, or AT&T, rather than the technical features."
Perhaps the decision to allow iPhone use is based upon business objectives and risks that are unique to each company. For you to decide that a short list of features such as Exchange Active-Sync, Cisco VPN and WPA meets the needs of every organization and you can there for presume the motives of technology professional and dismiss them as irrelevant personal opinion is insulting. It demonstrates a tremendous ego on your part and a lack of understanding of how a professional IT organization that is there to empower the enterprise and support business objectives operates.
Spoken like a true IT "pro"
Spoken like a true IT "pro" who is stuck in 90s. Good luck with that chief. Sounds like it's YOU who is "condescending, arrogant and uninformed." Your progressive thinking must really help your company's goals. Keith Shaw's article is just a primer, and well informed -- and raises the basic and relevant question for real IT pros. Sounds like you just aren't prepared ot deal with it or see if it can actually help your company.
I've been following Shaw's articles for many a year now and have never noticed his ego getting in the way of anything. He is a straight shooter. I may not always agree, but I've always valued his opinion.
I can just hear the employees that have to deal with your attitude saying "that guy needs to get over himself."
Keith, Did IT say no to your iPhone?
Its OK! Really!
From your article I can see you have never had to support end users with these devices. Too often articles such as this one describes all the neat features of a device and how the manufacturer has added support for existing environments (i.e. exchange).
Thats all fine and dandy but ……Why?
Why would IT provide support for iPhone users? If an organization has invested money and time in something (like Blackberry), and has had not had any issues with it. Why throw another device in the mix because its "neat" or “cool”.
While I can fill everyone's browser with reasons to choose a particular phone manufacturer or service, I have a hunch everyone is aware of these.
Oh wait! Keith isn’t! So let me list a few.
Simplify support and management by deciding on one manufacturer! Standardize your hardware!
Does the service provide international service? How is the service providers coverage in the area(s) traveled by the end user?
Does the manufacturer provide management tools and controls for centralized configuration and security?
I can go on and on! But no worries Keith! I am sure that fullness you have of yourself has left plenty of room on your belt for a Blackberry Thunder which will look nice next to the iPhone you spent way too much on!
Wow, talk about ad
Wow, talk about ad hominem.
It might "seem to him" that IT would have a hard case denying the iPhone, however that's no excuse to hoist your department's policies on his article.
As an IT Manager myself, I've found that keeping an iron thumb on things isn't always the best route. For example, the iPhone works better than the BlackBerry when syncing with Exchange-Entourage, so the Entourage users will be getting iPhones. Also, OWA sync devices tend to be cheaper than BB due to licensing.
I do warn superiors and users that OWA sync has certain disadvantages, but usually those are minor compared to the advantage of a given situation. Being a flexible but firm IT Department has a lot of benefits (for one, your muscle counts more when you choose to use it.)
Our IT is "planning" on supporting it.
I agree with some of the remarks made about being condescending. I think you could lighten up on the IT guys trying to do their job. I don't think every IT department is out to secretly destroy anything that gets in the way of Microsoft's empire, just as I don't think every Apple bigot loves Apple just because they really just hate MS. I think if you were fair in your thinking, you would see that IT is trying to do the best job they can at giving people what they need to do their job, staying within a budget and being able to support it all at the same time! You are kind of biting the hand that "reads" you here.
Our IT does plan on taking a look and evaluating the iPhone and seeing if it is capable of being a business tool. If it isn't, I guess someone has a really expensive music player!
Yes I can.
I have blocked the distribution/use of iPhone through a policy that requires mobile storage devices to be encrypted. Until whole device encryption is available, the iPhone will not be used in my enterprise. Success. Can you respond to that using tools that are available today IT hater?
